MA Arts Therapy, Registered Psychologist, Movement-Based Expressive Arts Therapist

Amanda Levey is a registered psychologist and has trained extensively with Anna and Daria Halprin at Tamalpa Institute, USA, pioneers in movement-based expressive arts therapy. The training actively encourages practitioners to use the creative processes learned to develop their own style of working in their chosen field. Amanda has created her own private practice as an expressive arts therapist, working with individuals and groups for over 20 years. In the last 15 years she has returned regularly to work with Anna Halprin and a core group of graduates for her own personal creative development, including developing her own method of working in video to express the emotional and artistic process. She is a registered Arts Therapist with ANZATA and is co-director of the Master of Arts in Arts Therapy at Whitecliffe College of Art and Design.
Sessions
Individual sessions can be booked and are held in a beautiful quiet and light office in the upstairs therapy rooms. Sessions last for up to one and a half hours. Amanda works with each individual to find the modalities that are most effective for that person. It is important not to do things that don't feel right for you, but equally as important to encourage the development of new resources. Most people can get a certain distance by themselves, reading and talking to supportive friends or family, however sometimes you need to try something a bit more innovative. Movement, drawing and working with other non-verbal methods can help to create new possibilites, and also can be a fun way to discover more about yourself.
