220,000 dots and 6 colours
by Tony Bright
220,000 dots and 6 colours is a concept work that took 850 hours to complete (from March - December 2007). It came about as a result of Tony's experience as a printer's assistant and 4-colour separation. The work is 6metres high and 12metres in length, comprising of 72 separate artworks, each a series of dots in 6 colours. Tony was originally attracted to the idea of colour matching and colour clashing theories of Johannes Itten (“The Art of Colour”, mid 1900’s, Bauhaus in Weimar, Germany), and mimicking the screen printing effects achieved by Andy Warhol. Tony believes he has taken a long time to mature as an artist due to the difficulty of coping with the world view on disability. Tony has right-side hemiplegia, a form of cerebral palsy but carries his disability like a birthmark.
