MOVING DANCE

md3 md2 md1

Movement Class run independently by Rachel Grimwood at MARCO

Moving Dance is an exploratory, playful, expressive, improvised movement practice. Sessions include dance therapy exercises and techniques from eclectic dance sources, mindfulness practice, body and breath work. The focus is on being present in the movement, embodiment, extending movement possibilities, acceptance of emotion, and raising awareness about self and relationship. Classes are suitable for all ages, abilities and disabilities. A willingness to move is all that’s needed.

The many benefits of mindfulness practice on both physical and mental wellbeing is well established. Mindfulness meditation has been shown to have a clear role in speeding up physical healing, to significantly reduce relapse rate in depression and improve outcome in the treatment of anxiety and chronic pain.

Moving Dance is an effective way to experience mindfulness.

Workshop participants own words describe the practice:
“Exquisite experience, liberating yet safe and freeing the body gently, beautifully and energetically”.
“It was wonderful. I feel quite emotional now, it was fun and it was sad and it was beautiful. I never knew dance could really be a way of expressing yourself but today I experienced it”.
“Teachers say you can’t teach people to be inside their body. After this session of `moving dance’ I know you can”.
“My whole body became conscious”.
