April Programme:
Week 1: Tuesday 22 April – Thursday 24 April
Henna Design, painting and body art with Rama Aycrigg
In this workshop, we explored the fascinating world of henna body art and the traditional designs that are used with henna. Particpants created their own unique patterns based on these designs and learnt the basic skills needed to apply the patterns to their skin with the henna paste. They also used these patterns to create a beautiful work of art on canvas, with paint and pens, to take home. The henna design lasts about a week on the skin, giving a lovely reminder of all the fun had in the workshop!
please note: The henna paste is totally natural, made from the leaves of the henna plant and various essential oils. However henna is not recommended in the rare case of a G6PD deficiency.
Week 2: Tuesday 29 April – Thursday 1 May
Stencil Art & Screen Printing with Ouch
Ouch aka Sam Rulz is an Auckland-based artist trained in tattooing and fine art. She creates in a 'Pop Art' style using a diverse range of materials.
This workshop looked at the use of stencil art in our local environment and participants got the opportunity to create their own stencils and applied them
to a variety of surfaces, from canvas and fabrics to wood and metal. Using a number of different application styles; screen printing, spray paint and acrylic paints participants not only learnt about practical artistic skills,
but also experienced the communication of an idea through the making of
symbols.
